I bought a cheap $30 U.S Japanese wooden hand plane Kanna (鉋), it is designed for general carpentry. The opening of the mouth is a bit large, I am going to use a piece of hardwood floor plank to fix it. Just fixing the opening is not enough to make it into a smoothing plane, because sharpening is the key for Japanese hand plane to get thin shaving.

Similar to kitchen knife, there is a huge difference between $30 U.S. vs $300 U.S. hand plane, the quality of the steel for the cheap plane has low quality steel. There is so much you can do but still it does worth every penny for general use. I am not even a wood working person, I am just another DIY guy. If I can do it, so can you!

I am NOT affiliated with any of these products, companies or people, I just want to share my experience as a serious DIYer and try to help other DIY people out there. Please give it a thumbs up and SUBSCRIBE to support me!
